Potato lemon curry Urulaikizhangupodimas


This is one of the most traditional methods of making potato poriyal . Take a little oil in a shall vessel and heat it 

The ingredients are half kg potatoes, mustard seeds, urad dhal ,  gram dhal ,Asafoetida, turmeric powder, curry leaves, green chillies  ginger, Salt and two medium sized lemons.

This is one of the most popular side dishes among children and adults alike.  Generally used as a side dish for rice, poori and occasionally chapati and dosa.

Add mustard, urad dhal and gram dhal to oil .  When mustard stops spluttering

Add finely chopped green chillies and ginger pieces

Add turmeric powder when these are cooked

Add the previously cooked (in a pressure cooker ) and mashed potatoes to these and mix  well with a ladle

Add salt to taste and mix well so that all the ingredients mix evenly through out

Switch off the stove and squeeze the two medium sized lemons .  This ensures that the curry does not turn  bitter.

Potato poriyal is ready to be served as a side dish for rice.  We can use it for chapati and poori also
