Use a sieve and add rice flour .  Rice flour ensures that the rangoli stays above water.and it also gives an opaque background so that the design in visible. The sieve helps us to remove solid particles ( which otherwise we may have to break gently with a pin ) It also helps to spread the rice flour on water evenly. Draw the rangoli gently on water , it should be similar to how an insect skims on the surface of water. Drawing small dots on rangoli comes with practice. Small white dots make the rangoli more beautiful. So this is my first venture into book publishing .  I wanted it to be a compact book that can be carried in a handbag for reference.  It has a little bit of everything every Indian lady may need - 50 padi kolam ( rangoli with lines ) with one or two images for the steps ) some free hand rangoli,  two rangoli for Puja room with lots of steps, some recipes ,  Pooja songs in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada., information on how to celebrate Varalakshmi Vratham , recipes for festivals, Diwali recipes and daily recipe ideas too. Hope it is useful.  The paper quality is used is 100 gsm according to the publisher and it is a full colour book.  The publisher ( Notion Press ) suggested this quality so that the appearance of the images is enhanced.
