Hayagreeva sweet recipe for Thrusday

This is a sweet dish that is used as an offering or neivedhiyam for Puja particularly on Thursdays.
for Lord Hyagreeva  (for children's education).

It can also be prepared and offered for auspicious occasions and festivals like Varalakshmi Vratha Pooja instead of kheer or payasam..

Method of preparation

Gram dhall ( kadalai paruppu ) is cooked with little water in a cooker.  Using a ladle break the dhall so that some are whole and some are broken.

Add powdered jaggery and mix well.  In a vessel add ghee and heat it.  Now add cashew nuts, raisins and the mixture of gram dhall and jaggery to the heated ghee

Stir well till jaggery melts completely.  Add cardamom powder to it.  The neivedhiyam is ready.  Adding grated coconut is optional.

Usually, it is prepared in small quantity since it is for offering.

Guruvaram or Thursday is very important for our family.  My mother-in-law was an ardent devotee of Mahaperiya His Holiness Chandrasekhara Saraswathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.  She stopped buying and wearing silk sarees as per His advice.  There is an old photo of Goddess Bhavani, about 75 years old that was given to my mother by His Holiness.  He advised my mother to perform Pooja to Goddess Bhavani.  We still have Her in our Pooja room.

My daughter is a great devotee of Sri Raghavendra Swami.  She performs seva whenever possible.  She also makes a point to go to the nearby Mutt on one or two Thursdays in a month. I performed sevas before marriage.  Nowadays I offer kadambam (combination of different flowers) strung with baale naaru to Raghavendra Swami.  At the local mutt we have to offer at 6 am or 11.30 am if it is to be placed on the Brindavan.

My father was a trustee of Sai Samaj.  So, my maternal side are devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba. We conduct bhajans on a video call every alternate Thursday. On our WhatsApp group we decide what are the songs to be sung and who will sing them.  All of us get at least two or three songs.

My husband and I are also devotees of His Holiness Sri Satyatma teertharu of Uttardi Mutt.  We have had the bhagya of receiving His blessings a few times.
