Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Parrot kolam designs with dots step by step images

Kolam for Pongal 2019 |  Muggulu for Sankranthi 2019  A very beautiful kolam called kili kolam in Tamil.  The beauty lies in connecting the dots with curved lines to form the neck and tail.  Once we achieve this, it is child's play. This kolam when I drew for the video to be uploaded on my YouTube Channel it was difficult because I had to get the tails as perfectly as possible on all sides.  Drawing each kolam is a different experience and gives a new experience too! The pictures show the step-by-step procedure for this awesome rangoli.  I have added as many pics as possible so that everyone can follow easily.  This is a classical rangoli for Sankranthi or Pongal when we try to show off our artistic skills through such designs.  Usually, I draw all the kolam standing or sitting from one side only.  This is not easy because we have to visualise all the patterns, connecting the lines with the dots from one side.  Somehow, I am comfortabl...

9 by 9 dots rangoli step by step pics

Image
9 pulli 9 varisai kolam | 9-9 dots kolam | 9 into 9 dots rangoli  First a very easy kolam using 9 x 9 dots in just a couple of steps. The second one is also 9 chukki rangoli.  Apart from 5 and 7 , nine dot grid is commonly used in traditional making. Many a time ,  I have been asked why I share chukki rangoli or chukkala muggulu which are nothing but rangoli designs with dots though the name of my website is Rangolisansdots.  I started with kolam without dots ,  particularly 2 lines designs. Later many requests came through comments, email for dot wala rangoli.  So I started sharing rangolis of this type too.  However you may observe that for the designs created by me , invariably there is an influence of free hand technique.  The advantage of this kolam is that it is created with straight line.  Only when there are curved lines we need more practice and supple wrists.  For example flower designs like the lotus.  This ca...

Moong dhal ladoo | Pasi paruppu laddu | Pasi paruppu urundai for Diwali Take required quantity of moong dhal , dry roast in a vessel till it turns golden brown in colour. The raw smell of the dhal should be completely removed by the roasting. Then make it into a fine powder with a mixer or blender.  We have what is called "machine" colloquially , in Indian cities and towns for making fine powder of grains. Finely powdered sugar called bura sakkarai or sugar .  This can be powdered in our mixer. For one measure moong dhal  flour , take three fourths measure of powdered sugar. Add a little cardamom powder , fry cashew nuts broken into small pieces in ghee Add both to the mixture of dhal flour and sugar powder. All the ingredients should be mixed well for some time so that they blend well. Then take two or three table  spoons of ghee , heat on a stove  Add the liquid ghee  to the flour , sugar mixture in a circular path , all around Then mix wel...

rangoli line drawing step by step images

Image
The images should be self explanatory.  The central pattern is called the Krishnan dindu or Lord Krishna's bolster.  After drawing this pattern draw the rhombus design on all four sides.  Connect them with set of 4 curved lines and then draw more curved lines in the gaps as shown in the pics. These lines merge at the top giving a different effect to the kolam.  Add lotuses , spirals and flowers to complete the rongoli.    These two images show the traditional Krishnan dindu as it is called These lines merge beautifully at the top giving an altogether different effect. Kamal patterns in the gaps make it suitable for Diwali Lakshmi Pooja , Navaratri Wrists should be supple to draw long curved lines  Flower patterns and spirals to complete the kolam As usual , rangoli using lines is a white muggulu type.  Only decoration is with kaavi.

Ganga Jamuna recipe for Deepavali sweets

Image
Deepavali sweets recipe dishes at home - old recipes  In the photo below a sweet called Ganga Jamuna ( Don't ask me how it got the name ) Prepare a dough with chiroti rava .   Add a pinch of salt and mix with water , make the dough and wait for two hours.   If chiroti rava is not available we can use ordinary rava after dry grinding it in a mixer. Mix rice flour in ghee so that it forms a semi-solid glue This is used to stick the rolled dough After rolling the dough into circular shapes as we do for chappati or poori.   Place three pieces one above the other applying the rice flour ghee glue in between.   Roll the dough as shown in the fourth image applying the rice flour ghee combination on the folds too.   Now cut the rolled dough into three pieces and roll one piece again.   If we have used three pieces we get a three layered chappati.   I have rolled into a small triangular shape, fry...
