This is a beautiful traditional kolam , a bigger version of what is called Parijatha Poo kolam.  Can be drawn for important festivals like Pongal, New Year and Deepavali .  Adding colours will make it really awesome to look at .  Draw the curved lines connecting the relevant dots in a single stretch . T his will enhance the beauty . The dot pattern is 11 by 6 .  The images show the steps for the rangoli.  Connect the dots with straight lines.  Add patterns as shown in the above pic .  The rangoli is ready .

This is an easy method to create a muggu.  Using these repeated patterns we can create many designs.  I will share more ideas.   After drawing these, we can decorate with motifs and colours to make it beautiful.   We can draw for festivals like Sankranthi or Ugadi or use for our daily purpose muggulu without colour.  The pink or rose patterns can be drawn on floor with tiles (provided the background contrast is good)  As a cement floor rangoli also it may be possible. Using a small dot grid like 6 by 6 we can create a muggu with Pongal pot, sugarcane as shown in the photo   I have added step by step images also to make it easy to understand. Add colours and designs on the pot.  We can draw the Sun also above the pot to complete the concept of the festival.  There were requests from viewers on YouTube for a small, compact rangoli for Bhogi and Sankranthi theme viz. Pot , sugarcane or cheruku , Sun .  They requested due to  little space available at their entrance. In metros , in apartment complexes ,  it is common to see entrances of houses facing each other .  So the space available for creating a rangoli is less. Tradtional muggulu are very easy and beautiful.  This design can be drawn independently or combined with four to make a big size design for Bhogi panduga.  I have shown the free hand patterns with white powder .  We can use colours to make a unique rangoli with white and colour combination.  If you would like to make this simple rangoli grand add colours or draw directly with colour kolam powder  The chukkalu are 6,4,4,6 and then 2 extra chukkalu at four corners. 6 If you are looking for old type kolam or white rangoli designs for any festival like Diwali or Dasara you can try this awesome rangoli idea.

For festivals like Bhogi , Sankranthi ( Pongal ) and also for Ekadasi.  This is a smaller version of a bigger muggu with 19 dots.  Add bright colours when drawing for festivals and kaavi border for Ekadasi .  It is a combination of three big and three small shankam.  One of the comments on Facebook for one my videos was "This is should be taught in schools .  Children will never leave classes".  I wonder why this simple art is not being taught in kids.  At least to my knowledge it is not part of the extra curricular activities.  Try this big kolam for an important festival like Bhogi.  The dot pattern is 16 dots - 8 rows and then 8 dots 4 rows. An old fashioned kolam but very beautiful.  Using only likes we can get a beautiful rangoli as shown in the picture below. The next kolam is a beautiful design .  The dot pattern is 15 to 8.  If we add colours or with just colourful shading , the result will be awesome as seen the photo below We can also try this kolam 12 dots - 2 rows, vertical and horizontal.  Then two extra dots ( 8 pairs ) Or this butterfly kolam with 9 to 1 dots Let me add an old kolam to this collection. One of the most fascinating designs is the conch or shankh designs in rangoli.  We use them for festivals like Sankranti and also for Navratri decoration . Sankranthi Tippudu muggulu | New Year muggu The dot pattern is 9 dots three rows.  Then 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 dots on the top and  bottom. The trick is simple draw the first pair of parallel lines above and below the row of 9 dots and connect them with curved lines.  Repeat this process in pairs of lines above and below the first pair of lines .  This part is easy but connecting them with curved lines moving our hand around the dots perfectly needs lots of concentration.  It is worth the effort because of the beauty of design.
