Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

This kolam can also be drawn free hand.  I have used 7 into 1 dot pattern to make it little easy.  When we are looking for small and beautiful rangolis for Dhanurmasam or New Year I think such designs fit the bill.  Of course, we can add colours instead of shading with white kola podi.

As a plain white rangoli it can be used for our daily purpose kolangal.

Five, seven and nine chukki rangoli designs are among the most popular because invariably grid size is directly proportional to time taken and complexity.  Invariably because there are exceptions to the rule and those exceptions are quite a few.

If you are looking for 7 ner pulli kolam or 7 dots rangoli kolam  this may satisfy your query to Google :)
This is one of the earliest kolam I drew for YouTube.  My channel is called Sudha Balaji.

When I tried this pattern, I had specifically in mind those who wanted to try sikku kolams but are not comfortable with so many curve lines going around the dots. Drawing curved lines among the dots is not so easy.

We tend to stop at many places resulting in the joints being visible.  So, this rangoli with the same theme - lines among the dots instead of connecting the dots was created only point is that the lines are straight.

Finally, I hae added decorations in the form of shading, bullets and floral petals.  We can do it according to our imagination and ability to draw.
