Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Sankranthi rangoli without dots simple

Image
The first kolam is floral design with pink and blue flowers decorated with a white and green border.   This floral motif is regularly used in rangolis.    If you observe closely, the design formed is  flowers inside a flower.   A very different free hand kolam. The second rangoli - I have drawn only 6 flowers around the 8-petal flower at the centre. because drawing eight flowers radially, one for each petal may make the design congested and cramped or may result very small flowers on the periphery.  I am only thinking aloud, hope you understood. No place for veins of the leaves :) The third rangoli one more design with just petals, using different colours because it is for the muggulu season i.e Dhanrumasa The fourth rangoli - we draw and colour as in the image or we can fill colours in the background, if we have more time at our disposal - on a weekday during Dhanur masam we can draw without colours probably on Saturday or Sunday we can fill w...

Without chukki rangoli for Sankranti

Image
For those who have read most posts of  my kolam blog  , you would observe some changes.  Rangolisansdots has become a huge collection of different types of rangoli designs.   So, I am trying to categorise them into various types to make the blog more user friendly.  The idea is that one should find what he/she is looking for.   I am trying to revamp the blog by putting myself in the mind of the user.  I do not know how many designs there are, but when I applied for copyrights for the blog, I found that the copies ran into several hundred pages.   The designs are free for those who use them for their personal use. I was reluctant to apply for copyrights.  I was really not happy when I discovered that many YouTube channels and websites started using my designs.  So this long and strenuous exercise, I had to do - applying to the Registrar of Copyrights.  It was then I discovered that I had shared thousands of designs for...

Top 10 Sankranthi muggulu

Image
Rangoli designs in this collection, were drawn on a kitchen slab! All are spontaneous creations. Later I started recording them in a notebook for reference not for drawing but for sharing on social media.  Here is a gallery of simple and small muggulu images with colours red, pink, green, yellow and of course white. Before proceeding to 1)  Beautiful Sankranthi muggu lu design My mother-in-law was one of the state toppers in SSLC (it was 11th standard those days, it became 10+2 in 1978, I hope my memory serves me right). Since she was not sent to college, she proceeded to master Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Sanskrit and Carnatic music. She had such a melodious voice.  She sang Marathi and Telugu lullabies for her children and grandchildren.  Since she spent her school holidays with relatives in  Vontimitta.  There she picked up Telugu too. After Pooja, every day I sing the harathi song in Telugu that I learnt from her. I am giving this info here to show...

Top 10 rangoli design for Diwali

Image
Collection of top rangoli designs for Diwali Best rangoli design simple 1 - This was quite a popular design when I first started sharing rangolis on social media.  The secret is that as far as possible all lines both straight and curved should be continuous without breaks. Later I converted it into a peacock rangoli using 9 dots. I belong to the old style of kolam school - if you read first few posts, you may realise it.  I was and I wanted to share only safed rangoli designs (as vellai kolamaavu kolam are called in Tamil).  When I realised more and more people came to my blog and to watch my videos on YouTube (initially I posted videos only on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram came much later) I realised that I had to create and share rangoli designs suitable for all types of requirements.  It was not about a personal blog anymore.  So, I started drawing colourful designs too and started saving them on a computer.  Later, I have attempted to categorise them...
