30+ rangoli kolam simple designs Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far. I have used the terms kolam rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners. This post may have answers kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning. Form a star w...

Many big muggulu with bright colours adorn many homes during this harvest festival season. It is more joyous because it is celebrated during spring. The climate is nice and cool in many parts of India. There is a tradition of wearing new clothes and going to the temple as we do for Diwali Drawing muggulu is also for conveying messages through simple art drawn on the floor be it with tiles, cement or mud. This kolam has all that are connected with Bhogi and Sanrkanti festival, namely Pot, Pongal, sugarcane, Sun and colours There were requests from viewers on YouTube for a small pot muggu . So I created this 7 by 7 design. A compact one suitable for small spaces too. Nowadays space is a premium for rangoli designs, particularly in metropolitan cities. Necessity is the mother of invention. Viewers requests kindled my imagination, and I created two rangolis one of which is shared here. White Pot muggu I liked the bright blue colour whe...

This is a special Bhogi rangoli idea - drawing 2 lines of different colours. Double line rule is the same for both types - with one colour (usually white) or two colours as shown Pick the rangoli powder (one colour each on the tip of the index finger and next finger) close with the thumb and push. Simultaneously move the arm to draw the lines. One-line falls between the index and next fingers, the other line falls outside the index finger. This image (close up) shows how to draw two lines. Use of thumb is shown. If you like to know more about this rare difficult rangoli technique you may visit 2 lines kolam with 2 colours The information in this post may be useful if you are looking for a) Double line rangoli images b) Simple double line rangoli One of the rarest and most beautiful methods of creating traditional kolam with lines, is more beautiful if the lines are discrete I think I 'invented" this technique. This blog post may have answers to 1) How to draw rangoli with dots 2) How to draw muggulu with dots. One of the bigger rangoli created by me. Dot pattern is 15 to 1. Number of dots decreases viz. (15,13,9,7,5,3,1) Though it is with 15 dots it is relatively easy to draw. The patterns below the neck (that represent the wings! are drawn first on the four sides. The beauty of this kolam lies in the symmetry of the patterns. One of the advantages or creating rangoli designs is that the result may be a unique rangoli. Actually, I thought of drawing butterflies and flowers but changed the theme to birds and flowers. Floral patterns are congruous with pakshi or titli (occasionally I use other languages too to describe the patterns to make it easy for those who are familiar with the terms in their mother tongue). Traditionally double line kolam is drawn with white rangoli powder- Take two pinches of white kolam podi on the index finger and the middle finger. Push with the thumb. One of the two lines falls outside the index finger. The other line falls inside the index finger. It is easy to fill colours in kolangal drawn with this technique. A demonstration is shown in the photo below The lines should be discrete, separate. When you practice for the first time you may not get two distinct lines but only a thick line. The more you practice; this technique comes with ease. It is a very beautiful traditional method. In a very short time, we can create a lot of big designs. I remember creating a double stroke kolam for Pongal at the entrance. The size was 3 to 4 feet in radius. I could do it in 15 to 20 minutes. Later adding colours took some time. I do it alone because the a...

Pongal kolam | Sankranthi muggulu | Sankranti rangoli designs This blog post may have information on a) chukki rangoli 15 to 8 Deepavali with colour b) 15 to 8 chukkala muggulu Adding colours to a rangoli gives an awesome effect. The picture below shows the step after drawing the central pattern. I have started showing the steps from the second duck so that we can have the first of the ducks as reference Probably this can be considered as a ubiquitous rangoli during the festival Pedda Panduga or Sankranti. It is preferred because though it is a 15 to 8 dots chukki rangoli it can be drawn quite easily. I am of the view that more the number of pics showing the steps the easier it is learnt and follow Happy Pongal 2019 to those who follow my blog! In this beautiful muggu , the trick is connecting the dots to form the head and neck in a single stroke in this otherwise simple rangoli. This enhances the beauty of ...
