For Margali 2017 a traditional double line kolam I drew on the first day. Viewers asked me how I know when to stop a free hand design. Frankly, I can go on and on. Time and space are constraints
The rangoli for the next day - small and simple free hand rangoli (or Rangoli sans dots!). Since the photos were taken at dawn, they may not be to one's expectation. I wanted them to be as naturalistic as possible.
Double stroke rangoli with lamps for Karthigai Deepam decoration. Karthigai is similar to Diwali festival in festivities. Suddenly, I have jumped to a different month. I discovered it in the same folder on my computer, so I thought why not share it here.
One more kolam - it is a month long kolam festival during Dhanurmasam. This is a variation of the traditional padi kolam
This is a 15 to 1 dot
lotus kolam , big rangoli and simple too | 15 chukki rangoli design. My habit of using compact grids makes it easy for me to draw relatively big kolam at the entrance. This
thamarai kolam is an example.
This a traditional rangoli I drew during Dhanurmasam 2017 - 2018
For the season, a double stroke or double line kolam on a
Margali Friday. There are at least 5 kolangal using 2 lines during this month. If I hesitate for a few seconds as to what to draw invariably I end up drawn this type.
Next a simple free hand rangoli with
spiral designs. How can we create free hand designs without spirals and other motifs. Petite patterns make the rangolis more beautiful, in my opinion that is.
Without chukki rangoli - 2 lines technique.
There it is one more of erattai izhai variety. It is my bread and butter :)
Peacock rangoli kolam image drawn without dots.
Circular rangoli drawn free hand. I liked the result after adding minimum colours. What about you, did you like it.
My mother's favourite kolam for Margazhi and Friday - next, this one is her favourite since she used to draw it at least once or twice in a month. She was a master of double stroke. I was her student.
A simple double line kolam I drew for Karthigai Deepam festival with deepams all around for decoration, beautiful and traditional
This is a combination of modern and traditional ideas in rangoli
The central design is a small kolam we draw for vasal converted into
birds design. I did not add the crests otherwise they would have become
mayil kolam.
A simple free hand design with colours. This is a non-descript pattern that I occasionally create. We never know which pattern is liked by readers / viewers. There are some who want very simple rangolis.
This is another entrance muggu converted into a small and beautiful rangoli. Again, at the centre is a padi kolam decorated with birds and spirals.
Can be used for flats or apartments, so small and cute. Paisleys that can be converted into pakshi if required.
A variation of the traditional line rangoli. A small padi kolam as it is called drawn with even number of lines (I use five lines also). This is the basic shape and the edges have been decorated in colour, can be tried on Friday.
Start with spirals and complete with birds. Feathers on the crown make them peacocks
It is early days for me on social media. I have been sharing quite a few images and videos drawn a granite slab, I purchased exclusively for my kolam videos. There were a few requests for sharing the actual kolam, I draw at the entrance of my home.
Usually, we draw small and simple kolangal daily at the entrance. So, I have shared some kolams that I drew during Dhanurmasa. This is the month when we draw special kolam and colour them too.
Since the photos were taken early in the morning (we have to draw kolam at dawn during this month) the lighting effect may not be good. I decided to share them without any special effects because I wanted the pics to be as natural as possible. Hence no enhancements were used.
There are 16 pictures in this post. 3 of them are with birds' designs including one peacock. I have added one kolam decorated with lamps and it can be referred to for Deepawali. The quality of rangoli colours is good and so I have added some motifs directly in colour.
There are couple of kolangal with double lines or parallel lines, my trademark :)
