A collection primarily comprising geethala muggulu for the festival.  You can save this designs for drawing on Fridays and functions too.   This website is a very huge collection of different types of rangolis.  Though I take a lot of care it is possible that rarely some designs may repeat in two different posts.   If you come across duplicates please let me know.   Traditional rangoli designs with lines called padi kolam in Tamil are drawn for auspicious occasions and festivals .  They are preferably decorated with kaavi .  When these type of kolam are seen in the courtyard of a house , a message is conveyed that there is a celebration in the house. One of the biggest and auspicious festivals of India , Varamahalakshmi Pooja is celebrated in Sravan month.   We need lots of rangolis to decorate the mantap, in front of and around the mantap and of course the entrance of our homes.  We may be comfortable with free hand or rangoli designs with dots.  This post is for those who prefer simple dot rangoli for decoration.   Let us remember that kaavi decoration of the kolam or muggulu is mandatory for festivals  1) How to draw this rangoli with dots - pic showing one of the steps  Simple kolam becomes awesome with shading The dot pattern is 7 by 4 for the rangoli in the above images.  Instead of shading with white we can add colours too.   Simple rangoli becomes beautiful with shading and with use of dots  The rangoli above is with 8 by 8 dots pattern.  The design below is with 6 dots 4 rows and then 4 dots one row on either side  Patterns, motifs make a simple muggu ,...

Varalakshmi Vratham or Varamahalakshmi Pooja will be celebrated on August 12, 2016.  This is one of the most important festivals and requires elaborate preparation and celebrations resulting in joy and mental satisfaction. This festival is called Varamahalakshmi Habba in Karnataka. The information is based on what is followed in our family for decades.  It can vary across families also. This is the aarti sung in my maternal side, by my mother for festivals like Varalakshmi Vratham , Navratri and on all Fridays after the Pooja.  I have shared an aarti sung in Telugu by my mother-in-law in a different post.    After all, Mahakavi Bharathiyar said _ "Go in all eight directions and bring the best in art and culture back home " So, we sing these two songs in Kannada and Telugu in our homes.  They are really very simple and beautiful.  When we sing with bhakthi and bhava we can realise the greatness of these songs.
