Dot rangoli for Varamahalakshmi festival

One of the biggest and auspicious festivals of India , Varamahalakshmi Pooja is celebrated in Sravan month.  

We need lots of rangolis to decorate the mantap, in front of and around the mantap and of course the entrance of our homes.

 We may be comfortable with free hand or rangoli designs with dots.  This post is for those who prefer simple dot rangoli for decoration.  

Let us remember that kaavi decoration of the kolam or muggulu is mandatory for festivals 

All the white rangoli designs with dots shown as examples in this post, have one intermediate post.

 While watching videos it may be easy to follow or watch it again if there are doubts or if the method is still not clear.

However, in the case of images, it is not possible.  So, I try to choose an image that is most likely to make it clear as to how to draw the rangoli.  It must cover the previous steps in one picture. 

We can upload videos or video links here but that will make the post "heavy" according to the search engines algorithm and they usually frown upon the practice though the facility is there.

So, I avoid it and may have used it very rarely. 

1) How to draw this rangoli with dots - pic showing one of the steps 

Simple kolam becomes awesome with shading - look at the non-descript image above. We may not have an idea that such innocuous parallel lines can be turned into an attractive simple rangoli design in white as shown in the image below.  That is effect of shading and adding motifs. Though the end of the arms can be turned into birds, I refrained from doing so, because I realised that there may be a couple of scores of birds rangoli designs.

The dot pattern is 7 by 4 for the rangoli in the above images.  Instead of shading with white we can add colours too.  

Simple rangoli becomes beautiful with shading and with use of dots. Similarly, the second example too. The gentle flower patterns can be converted into an awesome small rangoli without dots using shading, dots. Refer to the image below. 

The rangoli above is with 8 by 8 dots pattern.  The design below is with 6 dots 4 rows and then 4 dots one row on either side 

Patterns, motifs make a simple muggu , awesome. Some of my viewers and my husband too, tell that the end result is unexpected but attractive because the rangoli starts as a few lines and with the right combination of motifs, get converted into something awesome (according to them).  My husband uses the analogy of metamorphosis of the butterfly.
