Diwali is so much fun both when we are young and when our children are young. It is a blessing to see our children enjoying the festival. When the become adults, they are busy with education and careers and the joy when they were innocent kids was more. I made it and still make it a point to make the sweets and savouries for the festival at home.
Purchase of ingredients needed starts a few days before the festival and sweets etc are ready two or three days before Deepavali. We need a lot for us and also for distribution among the neighbours.
We ask our neighbours and they in turn ask us "Ganga snanam achaa" which translates to "Did you have your bath with water from Ganges". We mix Ganga jal in the water meant for Deepavali snanam.
