Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Some of my followers on Facebook, Instagram raise a doubt.  They say that when they watch my video the design looks simple and easy.  When they try it they do not get the desired shape.  So, I was asked to share some tips to get the correct shape and symmetry.

What I say now is actually cliche for those who have read many of my posts.  However, for first time readers of my blog I have to repeat.   The secret is only practice.  I have been practising kolam daily at the entrance for more than 50 years now.  The coordination among the mind, eyes, hands, wrists and fingers is of paramount importance.  While it is relatively easy to bring coordination among the eyes, hands etc.  developing self-confidence for drawing a beautiful kolam comes with a trained mind.

As they say, the fight is lost long before you enter the ring, it is won or lost when you start for the battle.  It is all in the mind.   What I can do everybody else can do.  It is not rocket science.   For beginners- they can practise daily in the Pooja room and when they are satisfied with the outcome, they can start sharing at the entrance.  The more we practise better the coordination and as we improve the mind cannot think negatively.
