Uttana Dwadashi festival story and rangoli

Image
Utthana Dwadashi is celebrated in Karthika month on twelfth day after new moon ( shukla paksha dwadashi ). On this day Lord Vishnu married Tulsi Maa.  She is called Vrinda  It is believed that those who perform this Puja get Punya of kanya dhan. Story (Katha) Vrinda was the daughter of Jaladhar, a king.  He antagonised all Gods since he had a boon that he would be all powerful till Vrinda got married.  Lord Vishnu disguised Himself as her husband.  She became angry and turned him into Saligram.   He turned her into Tulsi plant.  Lord Vishnu was very impressed with Vrinda and promised to marry her every year on Karthik month shukla paksha dwadashi.  This festival is called Tulsi Vivah or Utthana Dwadasi . Rangoli for Diwali Lakshmi Puja

Image
Traditional rangoli for Diwali decoration, also for Lakshmi Puja Place 4 dots in eight directions as shown in the picture below.  An eight-petal lotus or ashta dhala padmam type of rangoli.   We can also draw for Friday or other auspicious occasions and festivals. This is slightly different from the auspicious rangoli, I shared for Tulsi Pooja in which I had drawn intersecting lines and then extended three collinear dots from each line.  There may be different methods, different solutions for any given rangoli design.  So, I have shared two sets of illustrations, one for Uttana Dwadashi rangoli and the other one her for Lakshmi Pooja.  Whichever you feel is easier we can adopt that.  Having said that, both are equally easy, I feel. This is the link to the rangoli design step by step for Uttana Dwadashi Tulasi Pooja. Maybe you can go through both the ideas and decide for yourselves. Diwali Laxmi Puja rangoli Lakshmi Pooja

Image
Draw this traditional rangoli for festival Puja.  The beauty of this kolam is that the lines are drawn just outside the dots, curved lines that is.   So, when the muggu is completed, we can see a beautiful pattern of dots.  This design too belongs to the lotus kolam variety.   Apart from Diwali we can draw in the Pooja room for Friday and auspicious festivals like Dasara/ Rangoli tips - first place the dots in a circle. Four dots for on four sides i.e. top, below, left and right.  Then place three equidistant dots between any two dots on all four sides. This method will ensure that we get a near perfect circle and also the gaps are equal when viewed radially.  For dot grid with dots in eight directions, one dot in the gaps will be sufficient.  Now extend the dot pattern radially in sixteen directions.   The number of dots so extended, depends upon the size of the rangoli we are planning to draw. Initially, this post will have ...
