Simple nelivu kolam for beginners

Image
This is a simple but awesome kolam with 7 to 1 pulli.  The pics should be helpful for learners to try this kolam.  We can use it for our vasal kolangal or as part of our Margazhi festival decoration. Though it is small rangoli many steps have been added because we should not underestimate this muggu based on size.   If you are looking for 7 pulli kambi kolam , 7 dots sikku kolam or chukki rangoli 7 to1 (though this is not a classical chukki design because we go round the dots) The distinctive feature of this type of traditional chikku kolam designs is the symmetry that is to be achieved for any kolam, even if they are small.  If you observe the completed attractive rangoli design in the illustration below, it is perfectly symmetrical if I may be permitted to say so.  Kolam tips - How symmetry is achieved in this old style kolam.  The pictures below showing the intermediate steps should be of help. Neli kolam 7 dots Dot pattern is 7 to 1 - We can...

Margali kolam | Pongal kolangal | Sankranthi muggulu 2020 This is a unique type of chikku kolam .  Here we use a single line that goes around the dot grid and gets connected to where it started and hence the name.  Just by looking at a completed design it may be difficult to decipher the puzzle that it appears and probably one of the reasons why it is called so.  As is the norm in this blog, I have given few images to show the intermediate steps to make it easy to understand and learn.  I have used a 11 by 1 dot grid.  This kolam can be drawn with 9, 7 dots and bigger dot patterns also. Step by step pictures are shown to make easy to follow  For your weekday ( Monday to Thrusday ) or weekend kolam ideas Thin long lines should be drawn at a single stretch  It comes with practice  Try for Dhanuramasam rangoli for one of the 30 days  You may also use for sikku kolam with 11 dots or melikala muggulu with 11 dots for Bhogi a...

Big sikku kolam for Pongal Margazhi

Image
11 dots sikku kolam for Margali kolangal We can draw these kolam for during the Margazhi season 2019 and Pongal 2020 when we want to display our kolam skills.  The images show the step-by-step process for drawing the design. Big is not an absolute term.  We may consider kolangal above 9 dots in sikku kolam as big because of the complexity in many neli kolangal.  For other pulli kolam any design above 15 dots may be categorised as big.   Do not underestimate a sikku kolam by its size.  Even a small design can be tricky.  So naturally bigger designs will be little challenging.  I have tried to make them easy through the steps given in the pics The dot pattern is 11 dots, then 9 pulli 2 rows. 5 dot 2 rows and one dot. Kolam tips - It is preferable to practice this variety of old fashioned rangoli designs a few times so that we can memorise all the steps.   If the flow of patterns is smooth and effortless the result will be more attract...

Sikku kolam poduvathu eppadi images

Sikku kolam ( சிக்கு கோலங்கள் )  is unique to kolam designs of Tamil Nadu.  Sikku means knot.  It is obvious that one can get tied up in knots when one tries this type of kolam.  Actually the designs posted so far are very simple.  They can be more complicated.  Who ever discovered or invented this variety of kolam, it is a good exercise for the brain not that other varieties are anything less.  The final design is usually symmetrical when viewed from any direction The difference between this type and those with dots is that while in kolam with dots we use up the dots to form a pattern where as in this type it is drawn  around  the dots.  Of course they can be left plain or colours can be added. Small and simple sikku kolam   Let us start with a simple design.  The dot grid used is not standard  with two extra dots on eight sides 6 by 6 dots small sikku kolam Quite an easy and common kolam , like most des...
