Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. How to put dots in rangoli

The images below show the difference in the size of the dots depending upon the quantity of kola podi we use.

If we take minimum quantity of kola maavu, dots look like this

If we take more rangoli powder dots are thick and sometimes look like small lines.  When we join them with lines, they are not covered entirely by the lines

 When we place a dot grid, for example for 7 to 4 dot grids, place the 7 dots first and then the remaining dots above and below for better symmetry. Also, if your question is how to keep pulli or how to keep chukkala , please read this post.

We also use dots to decorate the periphery, around spirals and sometimes inside the kolam too ( to represent feathers for example inside birds' patterns). I follow the same techniques described above while placing the dots. 

 When placed around spirals the effect results in a magnificent enhancement of the beauty.  I am surprised to know how closely viewers follow my videos.  One lady asked me how to I place the same number of dots around a spiral. 

 For example, for a kolam I drew 6 spiral patterns, I placed the same number of dots around all the spirals, 12 in the instant case, she observed.  Frankly, it was not planned may be a coincidence or maybe subconsciously I count the dots while placing them.  Whatever the reason, I am happy that viewers take effort to watch the entire video and observe all the steps.
