Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far. I have used the terms kolam rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners. This post may have answers kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning. Form a star with two inverted triangles. ...

This colourful collection of rangoli designs for doorstep can also be drawn for decorating a bigger rangoli.
I have shared the designs with colour; you may use it as a white rangoli because usually we draw without colours for doorways.
Drawing rangoli and offering Pooja to doorstep with flowers, haldi kumkum is quite common in southern part of India.
flower patterns, usually lotus, leaves, tendrils, spirals and a few other standard motifs are used because the space available is less.
After drawing the kolam in white we can also decorate with kaavi (ochre like colour) daily or on Fridays at least.
I also use neli (wriggling lines) on either side of the straight lines, particularly for ways. This practice I inherited from my mother

In 2014 I received an email from YouTube, I could not believe my eyes. I asked my husband to check. He confirmed that it was from Google only (by checking the extension). My rangoli videos became so popular that YouTube contacted me, said they wanted to meet me in person. Those where the days when Google tried to "make more women come online" because internet search was dominated by young men.
According to one reliable website, 97% of the visitors to YouTube were young men between 18 and 25 years. The search term "rangoli" or "kolam" was almost non-existent when I started in 2012. There were some recipe channels only on a lighter note, maybe Google was interested in bringing more women online because many advertisements were for dresses and fashion:) On a serious note, Google was missing 50% of its audience if women were not interested in YouTube search.
YouTube was actually following me for nearly a year. When I started posting rangoli videos daily during Dhanurmasam, the partner manager contacted me and asked why I was posting daily (would the viewers not get bored, she asked) I told her that during Dhanurmasa till Sankranthi there is a tradition of drawing kolam daily in the morning every day.
Today, you go to YouTube search, you get hundreds of searches for kolam rangoli designs. I feel very happy and satisfied when I see this, thousands are searching for this art, and they may be hundreds or thousands of video channels on social media. The power of social media has been utilised positively. I think, my purpose of sharing this art has been attained. If you have read my earliest posts, I was a bit hesitant to start. It is God's grace.
