Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Chikka rangoli galu without chukki

The rangoli below is called krishnan dindu (Krishna's arm rest or bolster is a rough translation)  For this design also I have used a quadra - line design.

Draw curved lines to connect all the straight lines to get the final design that looks like an endless loop. Fill the design completely with colours of your choice.

When completed one cannot see where the rangoli starts and where it ends.  These rangolis are very simple and very easy to draw.

One intermediate step of this kolam or rangoli is shown below. The images are self-explanatory, I think.

I have shared small white kolam with lines, we can make them colourful, if required, add decorations also around the central rangoli design

This website also has posts on recipes and crafts - some examples are given below for reference

If you are also looking for without chukki rangoli or no chukkala muggulu , this post may be helpful to you.    Afterall my blog is Rangolisansdots - rangoli designs without dots is my forte:)

Here is a kolam without dots with a few intermediate steps .  White kolam is ubiquitous in India.  I am also one of the thousands of ladies who draw kolam daily in the morning at the entrance,  so it is easy for me share the designs I create for my vasal kolam.

The kolam below based on birds' designs, I created spontaneously.  Almost all free hand kolam are.

Draw the central pattern as shown in the first image. Birds can be drawn at the four corners.  Decorate as shown in the third picture.  Fill with white kola podi since invariable we do not use colours for our daily kolam.

Of course, if required kaavi colour (ochre) can be used around the rangoli

My followers on social media say they like what is according to them "old and traditional way of making rangolis, no wasting of rangolis, just simple and sweet " Actually that is what kolam is all about, thin lines, creating new patterns every day, dexterity etc are given more importance.
