Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Circle rangoli design for Diwali

I find that the terms mandala or rangoli are freely used for rangoli designs in many countries outside India just as we use rangoli or kolam in India.

Since the word mandala is related to circle, let us have some circular designs as theme in this post.

In the first rangoli concentric circles have been drawn without any aids like templates.  When we draw circles with this method there are some limitations.

Alternatively, we can mark the circles using geometric aids or a piece of chalk tied to a thread

by drawing a number of concentric circles after holding one end of the string at what will be the centre of the circles.

After drawing the circles, the route along the circles can be overwritten with rangoli.

I prefer the former method usually because I feel it gives a more naturalistic appearance to the rangoli.

The rangoli is decorated with patterns inside.  As a result, it turns into an awesome rangoli. The use of free hand lotus designs makes it suitable for Lakshmi Pooja too

If you are also looking for gol rangoli easy and beautiful, round rangoli designs without colours, maybe one of these two kolam , you can try.

Circular rangoli designs are also part of traditional kolam - one is the chakra sikku kolam in which the design is drawn to create a circular pattern.  Pooja kolam like the ashta dhala padamam (eight petal lotus), shank chakra rangoli and many other Pooja rangoli designs are circular in shape.

Traditional without chukki rangoli (rangoli designs without dots) are usually round because the motifs, patterns are drawn radially from the centre resulting in a circle with patterns in it.

Please go through the website which almost exclusively for this art apart from a few posts on festivals, recipes.  I am sure you will stumble upon beautiful designs of rangoli for Diwali.
