One of the simplest chukkala muggulu for daily purpose rangoli There are mainly two types of kolam with dots - where are the dots are connected by patterns usually repeated to get a symmetrical design or sikku kolam wherein the lines are drawn around the dots without touching them.   In the former type it is a good practice to connect all the dots so that there is symmetry - unilateral or bilateral.  Do not leave any dots.  Use them also to draw some designs that match the remaining part of the kolam.  If you see in the images shown above some dots remain inside the petals....

 This is a very simple design with no frills and with only lotus patterns .  Draw on Sukravaram with kaavi powder for decoration, it will look divine.  The pictures should help learn the steps quickly. This is one of my creations, a simple chukki rangoli 15 to 8 with colours. One of the earliest kolam art creations, maybe in 2012 for this muggulu website.   How do I create so many designs is the question uppermost in the minds of quite a few viewers.  Usually, I create new rangoli designs easy and beautiful in my mind.   I keep drawing them in my mind.  Then I try in a notebook.  Invariably I do not draw rangoli with chalk piece.  Then I try on the granite slab that I have been using since the inception of Rangolisansdots. There is a lot of difference between what we draw in a notebook with a pen or pencil and drawing as a balli rangoli.  What may be possible with a pen will not be practical with the traditional method of drawing this art with powder.   So, if required, I alter the kolam pattern accordingly. The dot pattern is 9 by 5 placed horizontally.  Actually, I wanted to draw a rangoli with 9 by dots placed vertically.    After placing the dots (probably absent minded) I realised that I had placed them as a horizontal grid.  So, I decided to create a muggu and the result is seen in the images!! This is a tricky rangoli, hence I have included step by step images also.  If the patterns are drawn at a single stretch, the result will be beautiful without joints in the lines We can draw directly with rangoli colours too, using different colours, many combinations are possible.  The quality of colour powder should be good. There are some traditional kolam designs that are drawn in the Pooja room particularly on Fridays ( Vellikizhamai in Tamil) These designs are considered to represent Goddess Lakshmi and are usually in the shape of a lotus and hence they are not drawn  at the entrance of homes.  However, the regular kolam drawn at the entrance are for welcoming Goddess Lakshmi  One of the many benefits of drawing this simple art is the positive thoughts and positive vibes that emanate when we draw it.  We can create a small and beautiful rangoli when we add patterns inside and outside.  Rangoli tips - The beauty of drawing rangoli lies in the following  1) placing the dots with minimum quantity of rangoli powder which ensures that small dots are obtained. We shouldn't place dots that appear elongated.   2) Dots should disappear when the pattern appears. This is an important rangoli tip to create beautiful kolam. 3) Also, after placing the dot grid, before drawing the small kolam with 4 dots, even though it is a very small rangoli,  Like many other kolam ideas this design can be drawn as bigger pattern with bigger dot grids.
