Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Sankranthi peacock muggulu Nemali rangoli

The dot pattern is 9 by 5 placed horizontally.  Actually, I wanted to draw a rangoli with 9 by dots placed vertically.   

After placing the dots (probably absent minded) I realised that I had placed them as a horizontal grid.  So, I decided to create a muggu and the result is seen in the images!!

There is one more post with white muggulu with 9 chukkalu (not nemali muggu) just for your reference, in case you are looking of 9 to 5 madhya chukka muggulu only.

Peacocks are associated with resplendent colours.  Another bird that I can think of is the bird of paradise. I have seen only pictures and in some videos. 

These birds are also awesome that we cannot express the beauty in words.  However, let me stick to peacock, it is the national bird of India.

So, after all this discussion on colours, why have I drawn white peacocks in white muggulu.

Dot pattern is 9 by 5 - Muggulu tips - it is easy to create simple and beautiful muggulu with 9 dots because it is easy to draw a nakshatra pattern as shown.  The dots inside the star can be connected to form a simple design either with straight geethala or curved lines. Now that leaves the 2 to 1 dot grid around the periphery as shown above, these dots are converted into elliptical shapes. Then white peacock designs are drawn freehand.

Peacock chukki rangoli through images - White colour peacocks are very beautiful in their own way. They are whitified by Nature to such an extent that we probably can say as white as a peacock instead of as white as snow. I should hasten to add that I have never seen snow so far.

Only shading has been done - Rangoli tips - We can use a bigger dot grid if we do not want to draw the nemali muggu without dots.  This will complicate the otherwise simple white rangoli for Sankranti. There will be some dots left out that have to be used to draw more patterns.  Maybe it is possible to create more beautiful peacock muggulu with a bigger dot pattern. I will reserve it for some other day. I already have my plate full.

Drawing rangoli on mud floor after sprinkling water, in the morning, when the whole world is silent except for few birds who have begun another day by chirping, is a divine experience. Nowadays we draw on cement floor or on tiles only.
