Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Awesome stencil rangoli ideas for Dhanteras

New simple  rangoli making tips for Dhanteras rangoli at home , Bhai Dooj

In an earlier post, I shared how to use two different colours on a rangoli stencil to create quick and easy rangoli.

I have tried something different here.  Bina dot rangoli patterns plus stencil.  Regimentation suppresses creativity.

It is possible to have more variations also and that will be tried in Rangoli-sans-dots.

I think you will agree that we find it very painful to erase a rangoli.  In the image the space at the centre in black is filled with colours, free hand patterns.

The colour in the background is obtained by erasing a previous colourful rangoli . It is a mixture of various colours.

I have used a rangoli stencil on this background and added free hand patterns around the circle.  Only the centre part of a stencil has been used.

How to create beautiful rangoli with both techniques i.e using stencil and free hand (without chukki ) designs is demonstrated in these two images

Stencil rangoli designs at home

Creating a round rangoli design with a stencil rangoli at the centre is kids play.  I have only shown a white rangoli as an example.  We can add colours as shown in the illustration below.  The rangoli below also has a simple stencil pattern at the centre.  While the stencil above was filled with white atta, the one below has been filled directly with two colours yellow and red.  The remaining patterns and colours should match the ones at the centre.

Innovative rangoli designs for festivals - two more images.  The purple hue in the annular portion is from a mixture of colours from an erased rangoli.  Ephemeral is the adjective / word associated with this art. Impermanence is also one of the terms used to describe the quality of a rangoli.  Both of synonymous.
