Every day in the morning, we draw
simple patterns on the doorstep before making kolam at the entrance.
We need simple and unique designs for this place too. I have shared some. In the first image - 3 simple front door rangoli designs
The simple borders can decorate doorways or small spaces. They can also be used around bigger rangoli designs that are drawn for festivals like Bhogi

Whenever I get a flashback of memories of my childhood in Omalur, sometimes I remember what is called kola kuzhai (cylindrical apparatus with holes that can be dragged along the floor. It is filled with kola podi which falls to form lines when the cylinder rolls when the handle is dragged). There was one in our house that our mother used. We sisters also tried our hands with the kuzhai. There were a few families in our street which used the kola kuzhai to draw
padi kolam . They decorated the kolam with kaavi after completion. I have tried a few times in my hometown. After coming to Chennai, I have stopped using it due to space constraints and the nature of floor.
Coming back to our topic here is one more white kolam border, I have shared one, two and three segments drawn. We can draw one of these depending upon the time and width of doorway available. We can also draw all the three or around a bigger kolam.
Another flashback from my hometown Omalur. A group of artistes used to come from Mysore dressed as Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, Krishna etc and enact some parts of the great epics. How and why, they came I don't remember. Somehow, they came to our house and like most Indians my parents offered them sumptuous lunch. They spoke with them in Kannada. The troupe was elated to hear their mother tongue in another state of our country. This is just a vague memory, and I do not remember more details. Of course, I can ask my elder siblings and post here. I will make a note of it.
