Happy New Year kolam , Welcome New Year rangoli designs are ubiquitous on New Year eve.
Many homes are adorned with colourful kolangal with one of these messages on the kolam itself.
Some may prefer to draw a big pulli kolam and write the message on the top or bottom of the kolam.
I have shared some ideas for them.
I invariably draw a rangoli sans dots (not surprising!) and write the message outside the rangoli.
This is a different type of kolam that we can try to make others look in awe. The dot pattern is 7 dots at the centre, 8,9,10,3,2,1 on either side.
"My mom used to make similar rangolis early in the morning at 5.30 before starting her daily work and then heading to the office.
Every time I see your rangolis on that black stone, it brings back those memories. I could just keep watching them forever "
Social media as some say is a double-edged sword. I am happy that I contribute in a positive way as is evident from the comment from my Facebook Page that I have shared above.

A common
vilakku kolam using 11 to 6 dots. I have decorated with kolam podi , we can use colours to enhance the beauty.

This kolam uses 14 dots 2 rows, then upto 2 dots. Called Happy New Year kolam , I regularly use this design I created. We have to only change the year from 2021 to 2022 etc.
The kolam in the pic below was created by me using 11 to 6 dots. Add bright colours if you want to use this pattern for Puthandu kolangal.
This is quite a simple kolam for a 9 by 9 dots
The first rangoli is traditional pattern. Observe it closely. We may need to practice it a few times to get the maze of lines right. Kolam art can be quite challenging. When we achieve the desired result (and that is invariably after practising a few times) it is bliss to say the least.
I think I have shared the steps elsewhere. The idea is to share the final image in some of the posts so that those want to try without seeing the step-by-step procedure will appreciate it.
If we see the steps before even trying it is like Sherlock Holmes explaining to Dr. Watson and saying "Elementary, my dear Watson" We can bookmark this first pic for our Diwali New Year rangoli designs.
The second photo shows a standard and
easy dot wala rangoli. Use of lamps designs make it suitable for rangoli design for Diwali diya wala.
The third picture is self-explanatory. The fourth pics shows birds, small ones, let us assume they represent sparrows since I have not used crests. Add colours and display it for
New Year birds rangoli. A very good sample for filling with bright colours.
The fifth one is an easy new year rangoli with dots. Though the dot grid is 9 by 9 the use of very simple motifs etc make it a simple Diwali rangoli for beginners.
