Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

We can create beautiful rangolis with small dot grids.  The step-by-step images show how to do it. We can draw them for our daily rangoli or for festivals like Sankranthi or Ugadi if we are looking for small designs. Rangoli designs are created by me usually in the afternoon, after lunch.

There is invariably a notebook and pen on the centre table.
When it is time for old film songs on the radio.  Yes, I still use a radio for listening to songs.  With the advancement in technology, we discard so many things.  The use of the transistor radio was realised during the 2015 floods in Chennai.  There was no electricity for few days and consequently all mobiles had no charge.
We used to get the latest news and updates on the situation in Chennai.

When we were in school it was LKG, UGK to start with. When my children went to school it started from Pre KG. My husband asked the principal "Why Pre KG" She replied that families have become nuclear, so schools now perform the duties of the grandmother who taught children songs, crafts, dance and told stories from our epics.

Similarly, I also think I am like my grandmother who taught us kolam. I share these designs (most of the kolangal are created by me including the one in this post) for the subsequent generations to save, practice and handover to their children.  It even a few do it my purpose will be served. So, I request you share my blog within your circles so that those interested may take a look.

So far as I am concerned, apart from my mother, grandmother, I learnt how to draw thin lines, how to place dots and the art of drawing double line rangoli designs from my elder sister, Hema who currently resides in Nagpur.  She is nine years elder to me. Creativity is mine.  Whenever I remind her of being my guru, she says "Yes I taught you the basics, but you developed a lot on your own right from your teenage".
