Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Line rangoli for Varamahalakshmi Pooja

A collection primarily comprising geethala muggulu for the festival.  You can save this designs for drawing on Fridays and functions too.  

This website is a very huge collection of different types of rangolis.

 Though I take a lot of care it is possible that rarely some designs may repeat in two different posts.  If you come across duplicates please let me know.  

Traditional rangoli designs with lines called padi kolam in Tamil are drawn for auspicious occasions and festivals . 

They are preferably decorated with kaavi . When these type of kolam are seen in the courtyard of a house , a message is conveyed that there is a celebration in the house.

This collection can be used for one of the many rangoli we draw for the important festival for Goddess Lakshmi 

Apart from the usual kolam at the entrance , I draw on the Mandap , before the Mandap and in the Pooja room also

Varalakshmi Pooja is one of my most favourite festivals along with Navaratri, Diwali . Having said that we have so many festivals each celebrated in a unique way.  So I think it is difficult to rank them.  
In our family we use a kalash with Goddess Lakshmi's Face etched on it.  My mother-in-law said that the kalash was used by her mother-in-law for Pooja. Whoever etched the Face, it is very divine.
Preparations for Pooja have to start of Thursday. I buy flowers from Koyambedu flower market on Wednesday and store them in the refrigerator.  They remain fresh. I buy fresh flowers and string them at home  Usually half kilogram is the minimum you can purchase since it is a wholesale market.  Some flowers are weighed by "ser" which is 300 gram. I purchase all varieties of Jasmine, Ananta, champa, thazhampoo, tuberose, oleander . After Pooja the fragrance that emanates from the Puja room is divine.
We are really blessed to perform Varalakshmi Vratham.
