Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Beautiful rangoli kolam designs with dots for Sankranti or Pongal

A very old and traditional kolam .  Really hats off to ladies of our country who could do such creative rangoli designs .

I am not surprised having seen the elder ladies in my family sit with us after dinner creating kolam designs.

Fortunately there was not distraction in the form of television etc those days so time was utilised in such innovative ways.

When we add colours to this kolam as we usually do for Margazhi , Sankranthi , it is better to draw few colourful lines

to enhance the beauty because filling with colour may obfuscate the beautiful design.

If you are looking for big rangoli designs with dots for competition , traditional big rangoli with dots,

chukki rangoli big size this design may be useful.

Images of big sikku kolam may be intimidating so also this kolam .  Actually, they are easy if we know the steps.  Hence I have added many images showing the steps.

Few viewers/followers complimented me for showing the easiest method to draw this kolam and many other designs, the bigger ones.  They said that they wanted to try it and that is my idea.  I want people to try these patterns on the floor outside the entrance, the traditional way.

How do I find the easy or easiest method.  I try a random method and even if it is difficult I continue till I complete it.  Along the way, many times, an easy method, flashes across the mind.

After completing, I place the dots again on the notebook, I use for practice and try the easier method I thought of.   Usually, it is final.  Afterwards, I place dots on the granite slab that I have and try it with rangoli powder once or twice.

Once I am satisfied, I am ready for the video but that is on another day.  You may wonder, I am taking so much trouble, the answer is simple, I simply love drawing kolam and cannot get bored with it.
My love for the art translates into benefit for the learners of this art form.
