Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Ugadi chukkala muggulu easy birds rangoli

Few simple and small muggulu with chukkalu for the festival.  We can decorate with kaavi as we do for most festivals and functions.  Obviously such small rangolis can be drawn without dots also. The theme for this post is birds ( Pakshi )

The first muggu is using 5 by 3 dots pattern . Earlier I remember to have drawn this rangoli directly with colours.  Now I am sharing the white muggu with colour shading for those who may have missed the earlier post on this website.

One of the common questions on Facebook and YouTube is how to draw curved lines effortlessly so as to get a uniform line without joints.  The wrist should be relaxed and not stiff.
If you are looking for chukki rangoli simple for Ugadi or easy Ugadi rangoli designs maybe, you can try one of these.
Rangoli tip _ The two examples above show how shading enhances the beauty of the kolam whether done with white podi or colours. Though it makes the rangoli more beautiful (I use more because this art is already a beauty even if is left plain) shading should be done with care because it may smudge the original design.  In any case it is a good practice to draw the outline once again after completion of decorations inside in the form of shading.  It goes without saying this will take a few minutes, may be 5 to 10 minutes depending upon the size and intricacy.  Hence, it is preferable to add this technique if we have time or for important occasions or festivals.
