Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Simple chukki rangoli for Ugadi festival

Easy ideas for festival decoration.  Kavi (ochre ) is usually used for festivals.  Add it as a border or fill in the rangoli

I am active on important social media like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube

You can do a Google search for "Sudha Balaji " or "Rangolisansdots" for finding various profiles of mine on different social media platforms for videos and reels.

However, I have been active on this blog (website) sharing pics of rangolis, some of them with step-by-step pictures.

I started this blog on Blogger before venturing into other platforms, so there is a sentimental attachment.

Of course, it is quite popular too with millions of views and consequently, I regularly share here too.

Baking new and different cakes is a hobby for my daughter.  My husband's cousin who visited our house said baking is a stress buster for him.  For me kolam is like meditation along with stringing of flowers.

I purchase flowers from the Koyambedu flower market in Chennai and wholesale rates and quantity. I store them properly in a refrigerator which is quite huge and can accommodate lots of flowers along with fruits and vegetables we store regularly.

In the evenings, I string flowers for adorning the pictures of Gods in our Pooja room.  A few of photos are more than 50 years old.  Usually, I do not use tied flowers available with flower vendors.  For Raghavendra Swami Mutt nearby I offer garlands strung with baale naaru because they do not accept garlands strung with thread.

When my husband and I went on a pilgrimage by road, the previous night I strung flowers for Manakula Vinayakar Temple, Puducherry, Thirukadaiyur Abhirami Amman and Thirumechiyur Lalithambigai.  All the garlands were placed on the idols by the priests.  I felt blessed.
