Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Simple chariot kolam with dots Pongal

Easy ratham muggulu for Sankranthi or Ratha Saptami, simple ther kolam for Rathasapthami - if you look for these ideas and have come to this website, I think you may like the rangoli I have shared.

After placing the dots, using simple repetitive designs we can create beautiful chariot rangoli.
The dot grid is a non-standard dot pattern as shown in the picture below.

Obviously, we need such a dot formation otherwise there will be extra dots that we have to use to create relevant patterns that are harmonious with the central Ratha theme.

Rangoli tips - In this context, it is a good practice to use all dot patterns in a rangoli design with dots.

Erasing excess dots may be confusing for those who see only the completed kolam images.  There are many who can identify the dot pattern just by looking at the creative rangoli designs drawn on the street particularly during festivals viz.

We have Bhogi kolam, Kanuma muggulu when rangoli making is at its peak, so much so, it is sort of a community celebration with all families in the street participating in kolam making simultaneously.

A good analogy would be Deepavali when all the children living in a street, come out together and burst crackers and enjoy the festival.

How to put dots in rangoli for Chariot kolam designs

The dot pattern is 9 and 5 dots 2 rows, 9,7 and 5 dots - 2 rows as shown with extra pairs of dots connecting both the dot grids. Recursive patterns are one of the easy methods of creating rangoli designs. In this beautiful traditional kolam we have elliptical patterns connecting the dots diagonally. It is one of the simplest methods to draw kolam easily.

Sun chariot kolam best ratham muggulu

We can draw for Sankranthi or Ratha saptami.  Decorate with kaavi .  Only one wheel is visible in the side view.  It is also believed that since Sun travels slowly, 365 days to come back to the same place again, one wheel is drawn to represent slowness in the orbit.  The chariot is created with simple repetitive patterns.
