Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Parijatham poo kolam 19-10 dots rangoli

Parijatham flower is considered one of the holiest flowers.  A very fragrant flower blooming in the night.

There is a flower which is only white in colour.  There is another flower which is white in colour with orange tubes.  Some call it pavala malli and others call it parijatham.

The pure white flower, I purchase in Koyamedu flower market.  The vendors sell it by the kilogram.

So, I purchase one kg of the flower, it costs Rupees one hundred or so depending upon the season, before festivals it is more expensive.

I am able to offer lots of these flowers for festivals like Varamahalakshmi Pooja.

A student of Botany and Zoology, I was in college and am fascinated by this flower. It is night blooming because there is less competition for pollination at night, it seems. Nature, you cannot beat it!

The white and orange flowers simply drop from the tree. It is one of the few flowers that can be picked from the ground and offered to Pooja, according to customs and traditions in some families.

First the smaller version of this kolam with 11 to 6 dots, idukku pulli(madhya chukkala in Telugu) in white colour.

I reiterate, to get an attractive rangoli, we should ensure that the curved lines drawn connecting the dots should be smooth and without joints i.e. they should be drawn in a single stretch.  The secrets for achieving these are concentration and practice.
