Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

Chukki rangoli 9 to 5 thru images

More than 80 percent of the designs in this blog are created by me.  Of course, we have common rangolis also including gantina rangolis which are common which may be around 20 percent.

Whenever I get time, I try to create new designs listening to melodious songs that act as a catalyst.  Of the many designs I try only a few makes to the blog or YouTube or Facebook.  Rest is not used immediately as I am not satisfied with them.  Sometimes I modify with different sets of patterns.

Nine chukki rangoli are common, these medium sized rangoli designs can be used for our daily kolam and also for festivals if we are looking for simple and quick kolams.

While rangolis themselves are beautiful, we can let our imagination run riot to add patterns, motifs as shown in the pic above.

I use a kolu stand, 5 steps that can be assembled and dismantled.  After dismantling, I store the parts in cartons on the loft till the next year.  I have a cloth cover, readymade, stitched suitable for five steps.

Now many more advanced versions have come.  They need no dismantling and can be used as bookshelves also.

Compare this, even a few years back we had to find furniture in our house that could be used as steps.  It was challenging but interesting because the table, teapoy etc had to be of optimum height so that the steps are not too steep and the drop had to be gradual.  We also used a white and clean dhoti to camouflage the furniture.

It was fun also because our quarterly examinations were over and we had holidays for the next ten days.  School life was so much fun because we had long breaks for Navaratri, Diwali, Christmas and summer holidays for 2 months.

(But) we were jealous of elders going to work who had no exams to write.  Only after we come out of school, we realise what we missed.  As they say the importance of shade is realised only when we are out in the hot sun.
