Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star with two inverted triangles.   ...

How to make thick fresh flower garlands
The first picture shows thick garlands of various flowers, kakada (called kattu malli in Tamil)
kanambaram and jasmine (called malli in Tamil)

This type of decoration can be used for bridal hair decoration for wedding, baby showers, seemantham or valaikappu

The bright, orange-coloured flowers are beautiful.  I purchase either at the local flower vendor or go to the flower market in Koyambedu,

Kanakambaram in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam is called crossandra or firecracker flower in English, aboli priyadarsha in Hindi Kanakambara in Kannada.

While many appreciate my posts and videos on stringing of flowers, there are very few who are not happy with me placing flowers on the floor.

I appreciate their sentiments.  When I string flowers in Pooja room that too near the Pooja mandir only, occasionally, I place them on the floor otherwise when I tie them in drawing room, I use a plank specially reserved for the purpose.

You can be rest assured that flowers, particularly those offered for Pooja are treated with utmost respect by me.
