Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Karthigai Deepam special kolam 15 pulli

I wanted to create a simple rangoli with deepam ( or lamp designs ).  After several small designs I wanted to try a bigger design.  Hence the dot pattern is 15 to 1

The first image, a white kolam step shows how the outer designs are created. I think this one image will suffice to get an idea.

This is also a simple kolam but again with influence of free hand rangolis in the motifs on either side of the lamps.

As seen in the second picture it is beautiful without filling the central space with colours. for this activity we need 10 to 15 minutes

Filling up the gaps will take some time and demands patience! Two pics showing before and after filling with rangoli colours.

Karthigai Deepam in Tamil Nadu is somewhat similar to Diwali celebrations particularly lighting diyas and crackers (for those who are not aware)

15 chukki rangoli designs for festivals

There is a very good collection of traditional kolam designs and recipes for this festival in this blog.

The brownish colour rangoli powder which has been used to fill the gaps as shown in the picture above is not a particular colour.  It is a mixture of the colours used to fill the designs.  I store the mixture in a separate container and use it when I think it is relevant.

This idea can aslo be used as big Diwali rangoli jhoti design.

I don't remember whether I have uploaded a video for this, should be there on YouTube.  Discussing a related issue there are requests for permitting downloading of videos on Instagram and Facebook. I think the default option for the relevant toggle is not to allow downloading.

I understand that it can be done for each video and not universally.  Also, the option cannot be changed for already published reels.

I checked the terms and conditions.  Instagram says that the downloaded videos can be used as per the wishes of the person downloading.

I am not sure how it benefits in reaching more people because there will be no backlink.  The only advantage is that the watermark Instagram provides.  I think Facebook does not provide water mark for my kolam videos.

Maybe, since viewers ask, I can try allowing downloading for a few videos or reels since viewers can always save the kolam video for reference and come back and watch it.
