Add colours or kaavi for these designs. Varmahalakshmi Pooja - when to do. The festival can be done on Friday 25th of August 2023.
If for any reason we are not able to perform the Puja on that day, we can do it on any
Friday of Sravan month or on a Friday during Navaratri
Two pics below showing easy rangoli designs for
Varamahalakshmi festival, one showing the kolam after completion, the other image showing an intermediate step
Rangoli art is an important part of any festival more so Varamahalakshmi Pooja. We have a padi kolam for placing Goddess kalasam outside our homes before welcoming Her inside. We draw Her Feet as rangoli.
We draw an auspicious rangoli like Aiswarya rangoli or Hrudaya kamalam in the mandap where we place the kalash.
Also, we draw some rangoli designs around the mandap.
Overall, there is considerable display of this art for this festival.

Simple kolam for Varamahalakshmi Habba in progress a without chukki rangoli. The white rangoli image shows how to start the design. The white kolam above shows how it looks after decorating the centre and the four sides with simple decorations. Rangoli tip - If you want to draw small squares at the centre that are of equal length, it is good if we first divide it at the centre and draw straight lines on either side on the rectangles so formed. If we start from one side, occasionally we may not get equal dimensions.

A simple free hand rongoli for the festival. One more rangoli design without chukki. I have given ideas in the form of white rangoli pics, we can decorate with kavi (lal colour) considering the auspicious festival. Rangoli designs are required for the mantap, outside the house, in the Pooja room for the Yamuna kalasha, for the halage used for placing harathi plate. While auspicious rangoli designs like Aishwarya Patra rangoli are drawn for the mantap, we can use these designs for Pooja room or at the entrance.

Navaratri and Varamahalakshmi Pooja are two of my most favourite festivals. I simply love to celebrate them. I need lots of flowers and I never get tired of stringing flowers. I buy loose flowers both from my regular flower vendor and from the Koyamedu flower market. I string them at night before dinner and sometimes after dinner. Usually I sit in the balcony, the cool breeze is just enough to lift the positive spirits. Loose flowers sold in bulk, I purchase for around Rupees five hundred. If we purchase already strung flowers, we may have to spend ten times. In the pic below, how to string nandyavarta flower beautifully white, available through the year.

We cannot blame the vendors, after all we have to pay for the labour involved too. I am quite fast at stringing flowers. The only person who strings faster than me is my elder sister. After all, I learnt from her and my mother.
In connection with this great festival, I share below how I prepare the Kalasha for the festival. Pooja to the kalash is being performed by the third generation in our family.

The kalasha is decorated with mavina ele and taale hoovu (or kedige hoovu), a beautifully shaped coconut, flower garlands. Her face is etched on the kalasha. We can adorn her will jewels too. At an auspicious time, She is welcomed into our house after offering Harathi and singing songs of Goddess Lakshmi.
