A collection of very simple kolam that we can try for
Margali masam (thingal). These small kolangal can be drawn as kolams without dots. Add colour to get awesome designs.
While medium size and big rangoli designs are popular during this month. Occasionally i.e. at least a few times in 30 days we may need small rangoli too.
The first three rangoli designs can be tried as
pulli illatha kolam . I have shared only the
white kolam. Please add colours. It is practically difficult to share all kolam with colours. I will exhaust my stock quickly and will have to trouble my sister to send it from Nagpur :)
1) White rangoli without dots small - The photo of a white rangoli below shows an example of a 7 to 1 dot pattern.
After the decoration at the four corners the result is an almost square design. The lines have been drawn among the dots, so it appears as if the dots have been placed after the lines are drawn.

A tricky kolam , I have tried to make it simple through easy steps. Practice well before trying with kolamaavu since it looks more beautiful if the patterns using straight and curved lines look beautiful if there are no interruptions that may result in joints. The result will be very attractive. These old style kolam are the original innovative rangoli designs.

Some of my followers who are traditional insist of use of rice flour only for drawing rangoli. Kolam in Tamil Nadu was drawn only with rice flour. It is difficult for those who try this art for the first time to get perfect lines with arisi maavu (rice flour). Due to the nature of the flour, it does not flow well, and control is difficult. The result may be discouraging for beginners.
We remember reading somewhere - it is like the pole used by an athlete. He/she needs the pole to rise to that height and after reaching the top he/she has to let go the pole to go to the other side. Similarly, rangoli powder is like the pole for a beginner. Experts can try with dry rice flour.
One these designs may be of interest if you came here looking for Margazhi kolam simple easy or Margazhi simple rangoli kolam. Hope you one of them (though I would be happy if you like them all :)
