Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

chukki rangoli 7 to 4

This is a tricky rangoli, hence I have included step by step images also.  If the patterns are drawn at a single stretch, the result will be beautiful without joints in the lines

We can draw directly with rangoli colours too, using different colours, many combinations are possible.  The quality of colour powder should be good.

If you are looking for 7 chukki rangoli, kolam 7 dots by 4 for your daily purpose muggulu , this idea can be tried on any day of the week or festivals like Dasara, Sankranthi.

Occasionally, I share images showing my green glass bangles because it has become sort of a trademark.  When I change my bangles to any other colour, there is objection from the viewers.  They have doubts as to who is drawing that particular kolam.

Simple colour decoration can be done because there is little space in the patterns.  Having said that, the size of the patterns depends on the gaps among the dots

How do we choose what patterns match with one another when creating a kolam.  Though there is no hard and fast rule, combinations of certain designs are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  (I must add in haste that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder). This comes with experience.

I think there should be a symbiotic relationship between any two patterns and among various designs.  I cannot explain the rules for fulfilling these conditions because the ideas come to me as I draw. Maybe if you read some of the posts of the blog you may be able to decipher.

Coming back to the green bangles, I came across an advertisement with the same combination of green glass bangles with gold ones on either side.  Similarly, I saw an art (on the internet) showing a young girl drawing kolam with the same bangle combination.  I am flattered.

Coming back to our topic of discussion i.e chukki rangoli 7 to 4 with dots the picture above shows quite a simple design.  I have added the patterns as shown on six sides. So, from one image we have two chukki rangoli easy for daily purpose - one without the extra motifs/frills and the other with all the additional decorations.
