Easy rangoli designs - beginners

Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate . Plus muggulu plus rangoli

Plus muggulu is one of the most popular categories for our daily muggu.  Instead of dots we use plus signs and connect them with curved lines.  Further decoration with patterns depends upon our creative skills. 

 This muggu uses a 5,3,1 plus pattern

The top of a plus pattern is connected to the bottom of the next plus

The unconnected edges of the plus patterns are connected to one another with curved lines

The next rangoli also uses plus patterns instead of dots .   Use of basic geometry in kolam gives us many designs for us.  This kolam is created by connecting the plus designs with straight lines .  As usual further decoration is as per our imagination.

The advantage of this type of muggu i.e with plus patterns is simpler than those with dots because we already have some patterns ready for us to develop further.  It is also easy for us to expand using the four edges of the plus patterns.
