8 x 8 dots rangoli  A common rangoli with dots , such square dot patterns with 8 dots are not common in Tamil Nadu.  I would like to share some of the designs. This is slightly tricky, connecting the dots with straight lines,  the images should help make the steps easy for those who may need them. Always it is advisable to draw the easiest patterns first so that the remaining dots can be used to create the more complicated ones.  Accordingly four butterflies are drawn at the four corners. The first step of connecting the dots with straight lines. The next step connecting the dots with lines parallel to the first. This leaves two dots on four sides and four dots at the centre as in the picture above. Connect the four outer dots with curved lines. My mother advised  us that a kolam drawn by a woman is a reflection of herself and asked us to get involved with religious fervour in drawing kolam.   The beauty of the kolam drawn by us should be measured by our love for the art and tradition and not only by the size and colours in the kolam.   So I draw  kolam  daily  at the entrance -  they are small and simple because what is the meaning of kolam - kolam means beauty in Tamil. I am asked how I am able to draw perfect geometric shapes including circles.  Frankly, I must admit that I may draw relatively perfect geometric shapes most of the times.   What I draw may not be perfectly perfect ! We are humans and not computers to draw perfect shapes.  Drawing with kolapodi using fingers when factored in makes it more difficult to draw perfect shapes.  So I would request to continue to practice so that we can become relatively perfect.  For those who find it difficult t...

In the series of rangolis with dots, the next is 11 dot rangolis.  Of course I have not yet drawn 7 dots rangolis in separate posts, but have drawn them in Rangoli-sans-dots. Also rangoli with 10 dots are due .  However, for whatever reason, or no reason I have decided to draw some rangolis with 11 dots 11 to 6 dots muggulu , simple and easy This can be drawn as a part of a bigger rangoli for Pongal or New Year too.  The pics below show the steps for this rather simple design .  Two photos showing the intermediate steps are however shown for reference .
