Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Varalakshmi Pooja

Varamahalakshmi Pooja and Vratham ( Varalakshmi nonbu in Tamil) Varamahalakshmi habba is one  of the most important festivals celebrated on a Friday of Sravan month.  It is considered more auspicious if there is a full moon also on that day.   We have different customs  traditions and dialects in India and so naturally women  in various parts of India (  Andhra Pradesh , Tamil Nadu or Karnataka )  may celebrate this festival in  different methods or according to their family customs through different languages  ( Tamil , Telugu or Kannada or Hindi ) .   This is also important because this is one of the few festivals where mother-in-law and daughter-in-law perform the pooja together.   How I celebrate this festival, Varamahalakshmi decoration ideas will be covered in this small article. Varalakshmi Vratham kalasam decoration

Image
There are many methods of decorating kalasam , all of us follow our own customs and traditions  I would like to share through images how I prepare kalasam for Varamahalakshmi Vratham.   In our family we have a kalasam made from brass on which Face of Goddess Lakshmi with shank and chakra designs are etched on the kalasam.  This kalasam has been there for decades.  Since it is a specialised job and we have to give to professionals those who want to celebrate the festival the first time or new to this festival , the following method of kalasam preparation may be useful. Take a silver or brass vessel for kalasam , clean it very well.   Apply limestone mixed with water ( sunnanbu in Tamil ) all around the kalasam. Varamahalakashmi Habba kalasam preparation in progress. Mix sandal wood powder in rose water and apply on four sides of the kalasam.  Then apply turmeric powder and kumkum above the sandalwood paste already applied Instead of a plain kalasam we...
