Simple New year rangoli kolam designs

The kolam below can be considered to be a floral design with many layers of petals of various shapes.  Again, add colourful lines parallel to the white design to get this simple but beautiful rangoli.   A white version of this rangoli has been uploaded elsewhere.  Comparing both will give us an idea how colours can influence the attractiveness of a rangoli design.  No intermediate steps for this simple rangoli in the pictures below for reference the image in colour is itself self explanatory.   A kolam without dots inspired by jewellery (ear ring or thodu in Tamil !) Drishyam or visuals are the best ways of remembering things.  I observed by mother and elder sisters draw rangoli designs daily and of course for Margazhi , Pongal festivals. For 30 days they made huge rangoli designs both free hand and with colours.  My task was to pick up the boxes with colours and give it to them , occasionally I was given the responsibility of filling colours in one element ! I learnt observing them and then practising lines and patterns on my own on a cement floor.  I have come a long way since then. I have shared the step by step images for just one rangoli in this blog post.  A common pulli kolam drawn in our family for decades particular for Sankranti festival Simple flower patterns and butterflies are matching designs in any rangoli.   It is very easy to represent butterflies and flowers in muggulu .  That is the beauty of this art.  All of us can become artists. Happy New Year kolam , Welcome New Year rangoli designs are ubiquitous on New Year eve.   Many homes are adorned with colourful kolangal with one of these messages on the kolam itself.   Some may prefer to draw a big pulli kolam and write the message on the top or bottom of the kolam.   I have shared some ideas for them.   I invariably draw a rangoli sans dots ( not surprising !) and write the message outside the rangoli.  This is a different type of kolam that we can try to make others look in awe.  The dot pattern is 7 dots at the centre, 8,9,10,3,2,1 on either side.   "My mom used to make similar rangolis early in the morning at 5.30 before starting her daily work and then heading to the office.  Every time I see your rangolis on that black stone, it brings back those memories.  I could just keep watching them forever " Social media as some say is a double edged sword.  I am happy that I contribute in a positi...
