Again, the rangoli expands outwards as shown in the next few photos
The position of the hand can be watched in the next two images to draw the pattern. Though there are many ways to draw a pattern I have tried to follow a simple method to make it easy for those who want to learn. For those who have knowledge of these patterns, they can be drawn with fewer steps

Aadi masam kolangal is somewhat tricky and can be complicated for some. Drawing kolam is a challenge to our dexterity and if we achieve some degree of dexterity, it is with practice only there is no rocket science involved! It is a common art drawn daily and all of us should be able to do it with practice.

The more we practice, the more graceful we become as our confidence increases exponentially with regular practice, grace and near perfection follow automatically. The curved lines in the kolam above are beautiful to look and it is a pleasure to draw them too. Please try!
The next kolam through step-by-step images is based on the theme but is not a traditional kolam.
Using the central curved designs I have added some free hand patterns. A simple and beautiful rangoli for New Year, Varalakshmi Vratham .

The tip I have given elsewhere in Rangolisansdots holds good for this type of designs. The wrists should not be stiff, should be supple to draw curved lines more importantly long continuous curved lines.
The beauty of this variety is enhanced to a great extent when there are not joints in the patterns. My husband after watching me for the videos because he holds the camera :) says that the suppleness of wrists required reminded him of silambam (a martial art of Tamil Nadu called single stick fighting).
He was a student of silambam when he was young. He says that we may injure ourselves when learning till our wrists become supple.
When I saw these creative rangoli designs on the floor of Perumal temples, I was immediately awestruck. I wanted to try and share a few of these unique rangoli designs with curved lines. I can assure it is not easy to draw 2 or 4 curved lines parallel to one another. Since I have decades of experience in drawing kolam, I managed to do a decent effort. The beauty of this unique kolam art is that it is a feast to the eyes and we will definitely want to try at least on a notebook with pencil or pen if not on the floor.
