Easy rangoli designs - beginners

30+ rangoli kolam simple designs  Though I have drawn all the designs myself personally I am thankful to my family for the inputs, information and help in drafting all the posts so far.  I have used the terms kolam  rangoli quite freely in all the posts. Probably there would have been differences based on classical (!) explanations in the past but today kolams can also be colourful like rangolis both in the free hand and dots type  I find that even the terms rangoli kolam and kolam rangoli are used at  present. The only area where I think kolam are different are in sikku kolam and arisi maavu kolam. Both are beautiful, challenging and can be intricate. Rangoli is muggulu in Telugu and so this post will be useful for those in search of small and simple muggulu for beginners.  This post   may have answers  kutty rangoli /kolam designs The rangoli in the image below is one of the basic designs that can be used for learning.   Form a star w...

Aadi month kolam designs small rangoli pics

This is a collection of simple rangoli designs for Aadi masam.  It usually falls between July 15 and August 15.  Auspicious occasions like housewarming, weddings are deferred to Tamil month of Aavani.

So we have discount sales offered by many shops  during this period.  However, this month is very special for Devi Karumari Amman.  Sunday and Friday ( Gnayiru and Velli ) are most auspicious for the Goddess during this month as also Aadi Pooram ( Pooram is Poorva Phalguni Star ) .

It is in the afternoons that I find time to create kolam , listening to old Tamil songs (Ilayaraja, MS Viswanathan) , there are several notebooks full of kolangal.

All do not reach my social media accounts like Blogger, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.  Only some of them that I think are good enough are shared.  Later I review the notebooks again and share a few more from my collection.

Even when I share common kolams ,  particularly sikku kolams I try to find the easiest method to draw the designs.

I have shared white and red (lal in Hindi) rangoli designs drawn at the entrance elsewhere because the background is not suitable to add kavi colour. It may not be apparent due to very little contrast.

Traditional kolam are among the most creative art ideas, the art is handed over from generation to generation, the creativity varies from person to person. Whenever, I travel in Tamil Nadu to have darshan at temples, I am wonderstruck at the imagination and creative prowess of kolam artists in the villages, towns and cities. Hats off to them.

Just for record, all these simple designs in the pics have been created by me.  The first one is small but tricky.  Try it on paper with a pen and I think you may agree. What about the birds design it seems to be different and unique doesn't it?

I have not shown any intermediate steps for any of the design to save space.  I think for those who have been following for few years it should be easy to draw them without any steps.

In Tamil Nadu certain stars of months are important and celebrated as festivals.  Most of them are on full moon days. Aadi Pooram (star is Purva Phalguni), Vaikasi Visakam, Avani Avittam, (Dhanista) Maasi Magam (Makha star).  These are some examples.

Some may have a doubt, "Aadi matham kolam podalama (Tamil) " Definitely by all means.
