As in the case of many posts I have shown </p><div style="text-align: left;">the white kolam only. It is preferable to decorate with kavi ( ochre ) colour. Kavi is usually used for</div><div style="text-align: left;">auspicious occasions.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">This kolam can be drawn for our Wednesday kolangal or Saturday kolam as these two days are important for Lord Vishnu</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We can also draw for Vaikunta Ekadasi festival , Purattasi month ( the whole month is considered important for Lord Venkateswara )</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I have also added Goddess Lakshmi's Feet for this rangoli. In traditional rangoli we represent Her through Feet patterns.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The main rangoli represents the Lord through shanka and chakra designs with the Namam pattern at the centre.🙏🙏</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I receive few suggestions on social media - like lines should be drawn from top to bottom, patterns should be drawn clockwise and not counter clockwise</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Though I appreciate their views , I think that we must first encourage drawing kolam daily at the entrance particularly</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">in metros where I see that this tradition is somewhat affected , i.e drawing daily, I mean. The practice of drawing rangoli for functions, festivals etc is still there , thankfully. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnRYNzU0AeJnpo4BmqSrho4YcPLJDT3hPxM2syc8UnCr0wUzhZbjF1KnhOc6aeJfaFwyAKWGLGCP7qf94jNNopnlsGNqbALqJ8Hbc2HZzyvQJNxYHvQ_KGbdIxR9Fe-BQSBWng7mXrUBwYuGsaR6hoIM_j0Y0nLjoGJxaJ3Io0NQ8P5gHszhmKHF7GLIOV/s1920/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201a.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="shanku-chakra-namam-kolam-0912a.jpg" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="113" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnRYNzU0AeJnpo4BmqSrho4YcPLJDT3hPxM2syc8UnCr0wUzhZbjF1KnhOc6aeJfaFwyAKWGLGCP7qf94jNNopnlsGNqbALqJ8Hbc2HZzyvQJNxYHvQ_KGbdIxR9Fe-BQSBWng7mXrUBwYuGsaR6hoIM_j0Y0nLjoGJxaJ3Io0NQ8P5gHszhmKHF7GLIOV/w200-h113/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201a.png" title="how to draw shanku chakra namam" width="200" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxaCLjHAFQncDJU__q1jg43XcV-hmm5G37JC992itoNKj9oF_jT2Z5cl4BNHqB3glAoCkF-_yj1KPD1pp9h1wF1nggTyXwqxC-MGY-kE-xyIjLYLb9J-VA9cBIAZZQ_JWmtkFvw4WU76uJe4SBM9IN2og14FsBfD6VC1LPqKpFOW7GmVohHfSCSX0PrBEQ/s1920/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201ab.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="shanku-chakra-namam-kolam-0912ab.jpg" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="113" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxaCLjHAFQncDJU__q1jg43XcV-hmm5G37JC992itoNKj9oF_jT2Z5cl4BNHqB3glAoCkF-_yj1KPD1pp9h1wF1nggTyXwqxC-MGY-kE-xyIjLYLb9J-VA9cBIAZZQ_JWmtkFvw4WU76uJe4SBM9IN2og14FsBfD6VC1LPqKpFOW7GmVohHfSCSX0PrBEQ/w200-h113/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201ab.png" title="Vaikunta Ekadash kolam" width="200" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-liCw0WYSmfeeLvNFKxTWz1DD6QwNWjpDluCYFEIa5qMQ7qINfBAg5g-58228FtV8cWQf9S5ulocvj0qgGxNaAAX-GJIgFGl1mTTrN3OkEnBei6k0XUzJsuo2o6a_yP0L1qRdvg4f2ea39gTFkMc_NKl9V1OnGLRlzcafhw_yMbmUeYLrp4YoT3pPOsgC/s1920/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201ac.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="shanku-chakra-namam-kolam-0912ac.jpg" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="113" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-liCw0WYSmfeeLvNFKxTWz1DD6QwNWjpDluCYFEIa5qMQ7qINfBAg5g-58228FtV8cWQf9S5ulocvj0qgGxNaAAX-GJIgFGl1mTTrN3OkEnBei6k0XUzJsuo2o6a_yP0L1qRdvg4f2ea39gTFkMc_NKl9V1OnGLRlzcafhw_yMbmUeYLrp4YoT3pPOsgC/w200-h113/Shank%20chakra%20namam%20kolam%20image%201ac.png" title="Vaikunta Ekadash rangoli" width="200" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>Sudha Balajihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08171528505409062017noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1202536345850790665.post-6572517678567513112023-12-08T18:30:00.004+05:302023-12-29T06:50:48.202+05:30Double line rangoli kolam designs steps<p> <span style="font-family: times;"><span><span style="text-align: justify;"> </span></span><span style="color: blue;">Rangoli making / Rangoli drawing - double stroke kolam</span></span></p><h4 style="clear: both;"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 12.8px;"><div style="text-align: justify;"></div></td></tr></tbody></table></h4><h2></h2><h4 style="clear: both;"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td class="tr-caption"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: times;">The first image shows the first step of the rangoli. I have used only parallel lines drawn simultaneously in this design. Draw four pairs of intersecting lines. </span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"> From the ends of each line connect the adjacent line to get the pattern seen above.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;">A very basic design that can by itself used as a simple rangoli for our homes. The next design has evolved from the previous one. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><span style="font-size: small;"> Draw a parallel line border matching the contours of the first design. Connect the border and the floral design with as many straight lines as possible</span><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></div></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;">The third step of the rangoli is shown below. Decorate the periphery of the rangoli with floral motifs that are formed using spiral and circular patterns. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;">Also fill the petals at the centre with simple oval designs. This is a plain rangoli by itself and can be drawn at entrances. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;">The rangoli can be filled with colours. Adding colours will make any rangoli very attractive. Actually rangoli means rows of colours. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><span style="font-size: small;">Hence colours and rangoli always go together. This rangoli in colours has been posted in a subsequent post</span><span> </span><span> </span></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"> </span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: times;">Rangoli above has evolved from the second one which has evolved from the first image above. All three are unique by themselves </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: times;"> and can be drawn depending upon the occasion, availability of time and space. </span></span></div></div><div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;">Thus from a single basic version, many with intricate patterns can evolve. I have constraints in space at present which will be reflected in many designs.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"> The rangoli after addition of a few colours and the effect of colours on a plain white rangoli is clearly visible. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"> Add lines of different colours between the double line border and the floral design and fill the patterns with colours </span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: times;">of your choice to get this simple design of rangoli</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; It has a simple two line border filed with blue rangoli powder on which red dots are added. All the four edges have spiral patterns. </p><p> The rangoli is filled with different colours yellow, green and blue. The remaining space that is black can also be filled with some colour of our choice,</p><p> only thing it is to be done carefully. The rangoli with colours filled is available in Dusshera rangoli</p><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;">Second image - This kolam / rangoli also uses floral petals as motifs. The basic kolam is drawn with spiral patterns as shown. </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: justify;">The outermost patterns are based on floral petals and are used to decorate the kolam. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div>Third image - In the rangoli the central design is drawn by drawing intersecting lines and forming the parallelogram like patterns.</div><div><br /></div><div> The edge of each one is expanded with floral designs with two petals. The gaps between the petals are filled with free hand designs. The central design is further enhanced with circular patterns of various colours. </div><div><br /></div><div> Finally the colours are filled up as shown to obtain the image shown above resulting in a colourful (green, yellow, blue ) floral pattern at the centre. The rangoli has two floral designs, the innermost one with petals of two colours and the outermost one filled with pink colour. </div><div><br /></div><div> The rangoli has been filled completely with pink outside the central design. This takes some time and demands patience also. </div><div><br /></div><div> After filling the gaps with pink floral petal motifs in orange have been added. On the outside the places between the petals has simple patterns. A simple design for all occasions and festivals.</div><div><br /></div><div><div>Fourth image - This rangoli is also with a circle as a theme with petals inside radiating from the centre. I have added triangular patterns around the circle. </div><div><br /></div><div>Though it is quite simple till this stage, filling up the colours inside needs a lot of patience. </div><div><br /></div><div> You may observe that I have used two shades of pink for the petals inside</div><div>1) Simple <a href="https://www.rangoli-sans-dots.com/2023/12/easy-rangoli-kolam-designs-with-colours.html" target="_blank"><b>rangoli kolam </b></a>for Friday</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Petals are drawn along the edges of the star pattern.</p><div> The gaps between are filled with floral petals and the rangoli is filled colours to get the design shown below. </div><div><br /></div><div> A simple but attractive rangoli. Can be drawn in double quick time.</div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">The lotus, is widely used in freehand rangolis. No wonder I have also used them in Rangoli-sans-dots at the centre of a rangoli or on the periphery.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> The lotus has been a religious symbol in India and one can find them in religious places like temples. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The lotus in particular has been associated with many Gods and Puranic tales. Some freehand designs have been added between the petals. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Complete the rangoli with bright colours. The motifs chosen should match the floral design at the centre.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /><div>This post is a " collection " of simple, cute and beautiful (!) rangoli designs. We can choose nine from these and use one for each day of Navratri</div><div><br /></div><div>to make the celebration more attractive and grander or for that matter have a simple colourful rangoli for Diwali.</div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: left;"> However, traditionally, in parts of India, rangoli are drawn at the entrance daily and are filled with colours rangoli powder of various colours or left plain and white </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"> Filling of rangoli with various colours is an art and needs some practice so that one colour does not spill on to another. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">If one has the patience, the rangoli can be drawn and the colours filled. The motifs or patterns surrounding the centre were thought of as the muggu / rangoli developed. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> This is usually the case in any free hand design. We have some idea and the design develops as we draw the rangoli. Observe how simple it is to create birds in rangoli kolam art. The birds resemble <a href="https://www.rangoli-sans-dots.com/2018/05/15-8-dots-muggulu-duck-muggulu-designs.html" target="_blank"><b>ducks</b></a>, don't they.</div><div><br /></div><div>All intricate details that are required in drawing or painting or not required here. A simple free hand design to represent a bird will suffice.</div><div><br /></div><div> To further improve the rangoli the birds are shown carrying fruits. Fill the rangoli with colours as shown in the image. </div><div><br /></div><div><div>It will suffice if we draw colourful lines inside the rangoli design. A floral design with birds is ready for use.</div><div><br /></div><div> One of the easiest and best ways to make <a href="https://www.rangoli-sans-dots.com/2018/05/15-8-dots-muggulu-duck-muggulu-designs.html" target="_blank"><b>birds patterns</b></a> ! It is not necessary to fill the entire rangoli with colours in these types of rangoli. </div></div><div><br /></div><div>That is the beauty of this traditional art form. More will follow in the future.</div><div style="widows: 1;"><br /></div><div style="widows: 1;">The dot pattern for this rangoli is 21 to 1 (ner pulli). </div><div style="widows: 1;"><br /></div><div style="widows: 1;">First draw all the elephants one by one. Free hand decorations of the elephant are done</div><div style="widows: 1;"><br /></div><div style="widows: 1;">to complete the kolam with 21 dots this can be classified as a big kolam with dots.</div><div style="widows: 1;"><br /></div><div style="widows: 1;">There are many more kolam that need a dot pattern using 20 and 25 dots. In free hand rangoli we have patterns drawn </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">invariably on the periphery of the rangoli . At the centre we can use the flower designs. Congruity in selection comes with experience.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Floral petals can be with one , two or three lobes. We can also have clover shaped patterns. After several small designs I wanted to try a bigger design. Hence the dot pattern is 15 to 1</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The first image , a white kolam step shows how the outer designs are created. I think this one image will suffice to get an idea.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">This is also a simple kolam but again with influence of free hand rangolis in the motifs on either side of the lamps.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">As seen in the second picture it is beautiful without filling the central space with colours. for this activity we need 10 to 15 minutes </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"> Filling up the gaps will take some time and demands patience! Add salt to taste. Cook till moisture is removed and this will be for few minutes . Adding grated coconut enhances the taste</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;">Thirty to forty year ago sundal was distributed to guests in pottalam as we call it. Now we distribute it through ziploc bags ! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When we were young, we ( friends and I ) went to many houses in the street . An easy white rangoli design for the ensuing festival season. Add <a href="https://www.rangoli-sans-dots.com/2017/09/best-color-rangoli-powder-for-diwali.html" target="_blank"><b>colours</b></a> to the white kolam to make it even more beautiful. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In my opinion white rangoli are beautiful in their own way. It is more joyous because it is celebrated during spring.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;">The climate is nice and cool in many parts of India. There is a tradition of wearing new clothes and going to the temple as we do for Diwali </p><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Drawing muggulu is also for conveying messages through simple art drawn on the floor be it with tiles, cement or mud. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This kolam has all that are connected with Bhogi and Sanrkanti festival , namely Pot , Pongal , sugarcane , Sun and colours </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Thee were requests from viewers on YouTube for a <a href="https://www.rangoli-sans-dots.com/2012/10/sankranti-pot-muggulu-pongal-pot-rangoli.html" target="_blank"><b>small pot muggu</b></a> . All craft ideas I do are amateur attempts </span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;"> However I would like to share most of them that are relevant to the idea of Rangoli-sans-dots - rangoli, kolam and some art and craft ideas to do it yourself.</span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;">We can also use artificial or imitation jewellery a. ( made for this purpose - if it made by us - it gives us a lot of satisfaction) </span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;">Some of the jewellery made by me and used in various decorations are in the images below. Trinkets in various designs are available ready-made They have to be assembled into a necklace.</span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;"> Our imagination is the key to get the final design. Also, it is time-consuming and needs lots of patience.</span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;">Artificial jewellery - necklaces, ear rings are quite easy to make. What we need is time and patience.</span><br style="text-align: justify;" /><span style="text-align: justify;">All the parts of the jewellery are available separately. </span></p><p><span style="text-align: justify;">We have to purchase them and create them.</span></p><p><span style="color: #2b00fe; text-align: justify;">How to make imitation jewellery at home</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSJks4hf8prlWyIUFhtZloZ78QCzZkpI54sb71s4GnKfXbuq-42Iz5cK3gUthDAAdKgryGsUlLKHLfqiZJU4Q0WRLf0VbcExT_Uckqzq0M9RP6fHx1VJ6DKVJKeaia3hphXCI2Cy-uLG3rXymapEiQidBbY5j9-aJhjdJtk4FEwxyQEttTA-ZZmNKefLY1/s400/Artificial%20jewellery%20designs%20for%20wedding%201a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Artificial-jewellery-designs-for-wedding-1710a.jpg" border="0" data-original-height="399" data-original-width="400" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSJks4hf8prlWyIUFhtZloZ78QCzZkpI54sb71s4GnKfXbuq-42Iz5cK3gUthDAAdKgryGsUlLKHLfqiZJU4Q0WRLf0VbcExT_Uckqzq0M9RP6fHx1VJ6DKVJKeaia3hphXCI2Cy-uLG3rXymapEiQidBbY5j9-aJhjdJtk4FEwxyQEttTA-ZZmNKefLY1/w200-h199/Artificial%20jewellery%20designs%20for%20wedding%201a.JPG" title="we can wear for weddings" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div></div><span style="text-align: justify;">For the necklace design in the image above - Take a metallic wire preferably gold or silver in colour (polyester or similar threads can also be used )</span><br style="text-align: justify;" /><br style="text-align: justify;" /><span style="text-align: justify;">The yellow colour metallic beads at the top are inserted in the metallic wire. The procedure is the same using a metallic or polyester wire create the design with green stones. Ear-rings are the among the simplest we can do in artificial jewelry. </div><div><br /></div><div>The stone setting in blue and white is readily available in the market (in India) with rings at the bottom. We have to insert the pearl pendants one by rings that can be closed with pliers. </div><div><br /></div><div>Again there are different varieties of stones, pendants and the combinations that can be got are many.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you are looking for costume jewellery ideas , imitation jewellery ideas for saree to be made at home you can try one of these. The number depends upon the length of the "jada" The ends are tied so that they form circles.</span></div><div><span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> Similarly another flower like kanakambaram (it has bright orange colour and so it is chosen ). These flowers are also tied following the same method that is used for the jasmine to get a circular floral arrangement.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> A very thick paper or cardboard of suitable length is taken and cut to get a rectangular shape. Place jasmine on the cardboard and tie using a needle and string so that it is firmly in place. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Next place the kanakambaram (firecracker flower ) flowers on the jasmine and tie them to the cardboard through the jasmine . The result is as shown in the second image.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The third flower can be a rose or "maru" leaves ( that have been used in this poola jada (braid decoration) . </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> The circular floral arrangement should of decreasing diameter so that the poo jadi tapers from the top to bottom ( it is wider at the top than at the bottom )</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> Then, the extra projections of cardboard are cut using a pair of scissors, carefully so that only the floral decoration is visible. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> A smaller version can be used for festivals like Varalakshmi Vratham.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Using a needle and thread make provisions at two or three places, for tying this decoration to the braid, taking into consideration the weight (!) of the flower jada. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This is a simple combination of flowers, we can use different combinations to suit our taste and availability of flowers.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">We can also change the order of flowers, having jasmine at the top instead of the bottom. </div><div style="clear: both;
